Protesters occupy

Protesters occupy

Protesters prevented from demonstrating and storming the jubilee house. 49 arrested because their actions were not procedural according to the Police. Letters served layers who are supposed to represent protesters, yet protesters went ahead that they were not communicated because the lawyers aren't the organizer of the event.

Police action against protesters has raised so much concerns portraying uncivil and unpatrioticsm of the force. They operate within their scope and the rules of the sovereign nation. The police posture seems to have burnt rules in the sight of protesters.

Allegations against IGP being the worse leader of the police force is being deepened. Is it Nana Addo government suppressing citizens legal actions against him?

Protesters do not need a permit to demonstrate but to inform the police and their action was constitutional. The police is said to have goofed for beating and arresting demonstrators.

He is busy and rich , elegant but extravagant.

He is  busy and rich, elegant but extravagant.

I met him at the mall, my purse fell and he locate me with it because he was behind. I was stunned seeing a gentle bearded young man standing right at glimpse hand over my lost purse. I thanked him and in a hurry he went on to meet his colleagues, they were group of business men in classic appearance.

I got sight on them until they stepped out after their engagement at the mall. In three pairs they  drove off a wagon , a rover and Lexus, all in their latest models.

Bosses Appointment

My boss had a meeting in the capital and I happen to be his secretary  very occasion.  I had the agenda of the meeting and gathered the necessary documents and items. We drove to the capital on Monday, in the pent house we held the meeting. Amazingly Benson was my bosses client, same guy at the mall. As usual, always in an undisputed outlook. We had a chat after the meeting and exchange contacts , my boss giggled seeing us chat, he ridiculously shouted "she is single!)".

He reached out

A couple of days after, he texted, and in response I asked how he is doing ? "I would be better if you had reached me earlier " , he texted back. I sent a smile emoji 😊.

The Date

He is eloquent and plays around with words and phrases, I sometimes have to brainstorm before responding. He is admirable and I liked him, but I drifted back a little because  of the perception that these gurus get what they want since  they can afford.  His business and busyness slowed everything, it took time until he asked me on a date when he had a break. I had work though but might miss the chance meeting him again so i requested  sick leave and made up to him.

He picked me up with a wagon at my apartment, all eyes gazed at me as I entered. Unexpectedly, he took me to the childrens park, we strolled  and got to know eat other and then drove to the restaurant to be refreshed. Unfortunately he had an emergency, he ordered me an Uber, gave me an envelope for the Uber and sped off. Ten times the fare was in the envelope.

Dilemma

In the evening, he called to apologize for the distortion of our meeting. He asked me what I observe at the childrens park. "Families , moms and dads playing around with their kids", I responded.

He hit directly on the nail saying" I need a mother for my unborn kids,.  would you be kind to do me that favor?" he asked. I was a little disturbed and didn't know what to say. With his indulgence I asked to revert.

A lot went through my mind. Is he not using this trick to get away with me ?

Is Benson not already married?

He could be a womanizer cos he can afford.

I'm carrier oriented, if I accept I will lose my focus.

We are not even closed friends so what does he really mean? What's even so special about me that such a personality has interest in me? hmm 🤔.

Objectiveness

I called Benson early morning and gave my word that we first have to get along because I don't really know him. He concurred.

I suppose he really needed a partner for  future and that made him desperately serious with me. He intentionally made time to see me often. Everytime he visited, he came with loads of items. I was working and I could afford everything for myself but he kept on.

He buys me a pair of shoes and it can pay a whole year's rent. He introduced me to his friends on an event and  he bares the entire cost. I introduced him to my friends at a restaurant and they took double packs home all at his cost. He is generous but extravagant. I feel being bought and skeptic to patronize him. He lives luxuriously and make me feel uncomfortable because I find it extravagant. He tells me that his life and it's normal.

We are getting along very well and I'm planning to take him home.

What should I expect?

Im sorry kid brother. A man of 34 apologizes to kid brother of 29.

APOLOGY

I'm sorry kid brother I was wrong and you were right. I should have listened to you and not always to myself. I was arrogant and stubborn, I undermined your intelligence and hated you for no reason.  kindly forgive me for envying and hating you so much.

Background

I was born and bread in the central region of Ghana. I had by basic and high school level education in the Gomoa East district. I hand the chance to live cities like Tema and Kumasi to do business and this gave me a little fortune.

My Relations

My younger brother lived with us until he attained  12 then my father too him to  stay with his new wife. He went through excruciating times and was exposed to many difficulties. My mother had a dream and decided to go for her son because it was revealed to her that the little boy was mistreated and suffering. On his return he got very sick because the situation was unbearable but God saved him.

Strange things about kid brother

There has been twice a time he was suppose to die but looks like he is a rock of ages and resistance to death. He was twice involved in fatal car accident and upon all these he survived. Our parents were poor and life was very difficult growing up. There is this aura around my brother which attracted love from people towards him. When I was the high school he was home because our parent could only afford taking care of one and not the two.

Favors of kid brother

He Wondered about in the community but his character of obedience and voluntary service to the elderly in the community got him to be sponsored through high school. He again was favored and he had the chance to go to the University. I can't exaggerate he being saint but I can attest to it that he is way better than I am morally and I envied him on that. After his tertiary education he was he even became better and wiser. I was working while he was is school and I got money. I was extravagant spending and did lots of women. I couldn't be controlled by my parent nor by anyone. I always blamed my parent for not taking me to  tertiary and not giving me a good stand in life but kid brother never complained though his struggles were fearful than mine. It wasn't all rosey when he was being sponsored to school. He actually had to live in with the helper and the family and serve for years and they honored him as well , by his doing in got to by taken through tailoring and I had a hands on work. He never complained about anything rather tries to figure out how best  our problems are resoled and also to find ways to care for our mother though he had not found a job with his certificate, he searched by day job just to survive with the hope of laying hand on something bigger.

Kid brother's dark day

Fast forward , he unfortunately got a lady pregnant along the way, it was very big deal for him and wanted to keep it secrete. When  I got to know about it through my mother, I spread it and shared the link like Alpha hour. I already envied him because he appears innocent and good to everyone and l be the black sheep always, so I made the new popular so they will know his other side, I had been in the game from my teens and I knew how to get away . Right from age 14 i was exposed into naughty things by a friend so I had graduate in the game.

His abilities

We share ideas and his stand's tall, our parent liked him because he listens to them, even our father who had no relationship with us because he broke away with our mother likes him. He tries to advice me on some matters or share his opinion on issues but  I dispute him and say (what do you know small boy). He analytical and seems to have an ideal for every situation that arises. He has patience to to listen even the talk is too much. Mother got him a her best  companion and called him for everything though we had a younger sister whom I suppose could build better synergy.

My Expeditions

I got a lady pregnant too and told kid brother willingly, he kept it as he if he never heard, I told him how we aborted it and he didn't chastise me or say anything bad. He share his experience on how difficult the feeling was to unexpectedly get a lady pregnant and how he managed the situation and kept the baby.

I found a Nigerian lady on the Facebook who gravitated towards me amazingly. Foolishly on my part I began sending her money, kid bro advised that I stay away from these Nigerian internet girls for they are not real . I didn't listen until I payed her rent and bought her phone aside other monies I gave her .Her contacts  were unreachable after she had taken enough.

We lodged in family house so my kid bro prompted me on another lady i brought home. She was too flashy  but I believed I'm a hard guy and  could move mountains so I acted like the dead goat, she left after two months and went away with my laptop.

Because I had  lent tailoring, I had several streams of income. I one time asked a cousin to get me a student girlfriend on his campus. I never saw the lady but I was buying credit, food and handouts yet never got to see her.

The Main deal

The last issue that brought me to this juncture is what is leading me to apologize to my brother. I have been reckless I  confess, I don't listen neither do I care , when it comes to women you can describe be as insane.

I've been dating a fire officer for a whole year but not set eyes on her. She doesn't permit me a video call but voice call only.we exchange pictures sometimes and I gave her good monies.  She mentioned she was going to help me enter into the service but that will come at cost and monies to be paid to some officials to enable the connection. I agreed because I trusted  her foolishly, but when I told kid bro about it he right away told me to my face "your so called girlfriend is a thief ". Apparently he has also applied for police and immigration service and by  his investigations and other exposures  one would waste money if you don't have a big man who has strong protocol, any you pay to anyone will be nonrefundable. He has wide exposures and is very cautious on certain dealing, but will listen to him? (Small boy I call Him )

I got furious at him for calling my beloved a thief and blasted him for making such exclamations, the incident brought between us a deadlock . I went about borrowing monies for the process because I had exhausted my funds and my account had run to single digit. I called my father to borrow, I later went to my mother and borrowed, though she didn't have she had to give me what my kid brother has been giving her, I borrowed from friends and other relatives for the process.

During the registration, while filling the online application for the service I chose central region to be my center for call up for body selection and verification of document. Last last she told me my information has been transferred to the north and it wouldn't be prudent for me to go for the particular excercise, she told me my particulars has been sent to the north and I shouldn't worry. She demanded that I pay an additional money to take care of that, I called my brother to give me that amount but he refused because he knew I was being defrauded but for me it was as if a spell has been casted on me.

I figured out to send the money to my girlfriend for his brother who is also in the fire service to fast track. I don't know what comes over me,  even when I'm told of the reality and the truth I won't listen until I fall into the pit. She gave me a list of items I will need to go need to go for training so I got them and I've been waiting since for a call so I can go for the training. Two batches have already passed out and are officers, it's been a year since I heard from my beloved and I'm still waiting. GHA30,000 for the expenses aside a whole year's investment.  My brother has been like an angel to correct me but I saw him to be like a noisy insect. I have a child with another lady but my relationship with my brother is dead. I only need him to reconcile with me again , that's all I need.

What shall I do?

Man screams at size and price of Ga kenkey bought at Cape ape Coast

Man screams at size and price of Ga kenkey bought at Cape Coast .

I bought Ga kenkey on my return home from an errand. I stopped by in abura market to buy food for lunch by the road side. Kenkey was the option , the prices were GHA 4 and GHA 3.

I bought one of each  and bought 8c fish. I had to scream my stomach out to my surprise when I got home with it and unwrapped it.

Are people actually taking advantage of the system or it's hardship economic crisis? The government speaks of abundance of food on our market yet their speech doesn't reflect the reality on the ground.

Ghana our mother land.

I AM GUILTY, (A LADY OF 24)

I am guilty

I'm a lady of 24 and a Fashion student, I have very good parent who are responsible and shows me all the love that every good parent would show their child. They take care of all my expenses and I don't struggle with any need on campus. I have a boyfriend who takes care of my extracurricular expenses without my parents consent. He is very much concerned and thinks so much about me and I don't wish to lose him, but stays in my hometown. I'm being a little stubborn.

My secret admirer

There's this guy in the school community that I've spotted for quite a long time. From distance he is not friendly, he is a fitness guy and very handsome. He is a graduate and a worker but lost his job per my investigation . I liked him from distance and began developing feeling for him though I had never spoken with him. He looks a little intimidating and  because of his stature and with shyness i was not able to speak with him even if he passes by me, he looked serious mostly so I feared approaching him.

One of my male school mates posted him on his status, there I said to myself I have to take advantage of this and inquire more. I told my friend how I'm obsessed about the guy but cannot approached him personally. My friend right away called  my admirer and merged the call for me to talk to him. He made an introduction and told him  the entire story , he laughed and asked that I take his number. He had very small voice and sounded like someone who had ever stayed in America.

Our chats

I message him right away but he responded later in the evening because he was at the gym when we called him.

We had a very long chat ever the night the first day. He was very approachable and very friendly. He asked if Im dating and why i yet have interest in him. I didn't know how to respond to it but (it is what it is). I admit but insisted how I admire him from distance.

He realized how vulnerable I am to him so he advised me to take it cool. He told me he has to respect that fact that I'm already engage and he wouldn't want to disrespect my guy.

His predicament

His story was heart breaking. He recounts his long but recent pains which gives him nightmares and battling to deal with. His lady left her because his incomes were low. She left his last job because the lady pressured him to leave, saying he is wasting time on jobs that doesn't pay anything. He left the jobs pursuing others with the hopes of securing a better one. The lady left her when he resigned from the current job. He has vowed not to have anything to do again with any woman because he put his all in his lady and loved her sincerely. The lady got a job which the guy wrote an application for and cultured her even before the interview. After a year securing the job she began misbehaving and left him 9 months ago.

First meeting

He is very nice and sound's very intelligent. I wanted to meet him on several occasions after the night we had a long chat . He didn't want to meet me but I had to put pressure to secure a chance with him. One evening I asked him for a stroll and he consented. I was shivering first for meeting him but he change the environment and made things very lively. I got more excited, we had long conversation as we walk along . I enjoyed every bit of his company cos he is naturally nice when you get closer to him.

He escorted me to my hostel after a 2 hour conversation then he returned to his place. I kept missing his company and I arranged for a second one . I even wanted to go to his place but he rejected that. He later told me he doesn't have a decorated room so he doesn't expect visited with the exception of his closed friends. I figured out and made him host me one day, he was truthful but wasn't as bad as  he captured it to me.

Dramatic second visit

I visited the second time and I bet he will be very surprised at my actions, it was a rainy day and I had planned to sleep over but he didn't expect that. At 10pm he expected I was going to leave but everything about me showed I've come to sleep. I laid comfortably in bed after sharing fruits together and he was seated watching me. When he came to lay down, I tried getting close and even tried cuddling him but he objective to it. He said he hasn't gotten over his recent past and he wouldn't even have feelings to do anything.

He overwhelmed me the next morning with breakfast in bed and expected I will leave after that. He served branch, lunch and dinner then we took Fruits after dinner. He wasn't comfortable with my ingratiation but he couldn't say. I'm pretty as well as he is handsome. I spent the second night and this time...Adam chewed the apple and left nothing to spear. It was a good night and men were really at work. I'm not proud of it but ( it is what it ).

He is loving and kind, sweet and accommodating. What should I do ?

Africa the richest continent in the world in Natural resources

Africa the richest  continent in the world in Natural resources

The African continent is no doubt the most resource-abundant continent. Resources such as gold, diamond, oil, natural gas, copper, uranium, among others are mined in different parts of the continent. Almost every country in Africa has a deposit of natural resources, Africa is also the poorest continent in the world. Per capita income in African countries is among the lowest in the world. This is evidenced by the failure to meet the Millenium Development Goals.

The paper examines the phenomenon of the natural resource curse in Africa. Understanding the reason why a natural resource-rich continent like Africa is still grappling with extreme poverty, inequality, and underdevelopment is key to policymakers and researchers. The paper also examines the effect of foreign aid on economic growth in Africa. The goal here is to contribute to the debate on whether the African continent benefits significantly from the flow of aid into the continent.

Africa is rich in natural resources ranging from arable land, water, oil, natural gas, minerals, forests and wildlife. The continent holds a huge proportion of the world’s natural resources, both renewables and non-renewables.

Africa is home to some 30 percent of the world’s mineral reserves, eight per cent of the world’s natural Gas and 12 per cent of the world’s oil reserves.  The continent has 40 percent of the world’s gold and up to 90 percent of its chromium and platinum. The largest reserves of cobalt, diamonds, platinum and uranium in the world are in Africa. It holds 65 per cent of the world’s arable land and ten percent of the planet’s internal renewable fresh water source.

In most African countries, natural capital accounts for between 30 percent and 50 percent of total wealth. Over 70 per cent of people living in sub-Saharan Africa depend on forests and woodlands for their livelihoods. Land is an economic development asset as well as a socio-cultural resource. A significant share of these resources is, however, used unsustainably while others are lost through illegal activities, meaning that the stream of benefits generated from these resources is being reduced over time. For instance, Africa loses an estimated USD 195 billion annually of its natural capital through illicit financial flows, illegal mining, illegal logging, the illegal trade in wildlife, unregulated fishing and environmental degradation and loss.

Collectively, the continent has a lot to gain in pulling together and harnessing its vast natural resources to  finance the development agenda towards greater prosperity; and it must also ensure that future growth and exploitation of natural resources is results-oriented, climate resilient and sustainable.

Each of the seven continents of the world has diverse natural resources. Africa has the richest concentration of natural resources such as oil, copper, diamonds, bauxite, lithium, gold, hardwood forests, and tropical fruits. It is estimated that 30% of the earth’s mineral resources are found in the African continent. Additionally, Africa has the world’s biggest precious metal reserves on earth. Despite the wealth of natural resources, Africa still lags behind in development due to corruption and resource mismanagement.

Oil

It is estimated that 12% of the oil produced in the world comes from Africa. The oil was formed over a period of more than a million years when fossils decomposed. The countries that lead in oil production in Africa are Nigeria, Libya, Angola, Algeria, and Egypt. These nations accounted for more than 8.7 million barrels of all the oil produced daily in 2014. Nigeria and Libya are ranked among the top ten countries with the largest oil reserves in the world at 48 billion barrels for Libya and 37 billion barrels for Nigeria. Most of the oil produced in Africa is exported to Europe and the United States where it is refined and consumed.

Precious Metals

Africa has the richest reserves of precious metals such as gold, cobalt, and platinum. These metal reserves are worth billions of dollars. The continent is home to the leading producer of the highly priced metal - gold. Gold is highly sought after in the jewelry industry as well as in the financial markets where it is used as an alternative investment option. South Africa is Africa's top gold producing nation. Other African countries that lead in the production of gold include Benin, Morocco, and the Gambia. Cobalt is another precious metal produced mainly in the continent. The commodity is essential in the production of electric cars. Approximately two-thirds of the cobalt in the world are produced in the DRC. Platinum is one of the rarest metals, and it has its largest reserves in South Africa. Platinum is used in making jewelry, electronics, and medical equipment.

Timber

Timber is an essential resource in the construction industry and furniture making. Most African countries are endowed with vast natural forests that provide timber. Ten nations belong to the International Tropical Timber Organization. They include Cameroon, Gabon, Togo, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, DRC, and Ghana. These countries are some of the leading timber producers in the world. Most of the timber produced in Africa is exported to China, England, France, and the United States.

Management Of Africa’s Natural Resources

Unlike the other six continents, Africa has a wealth of precious natural resources. Most of these commodities are highly sought after throughout the world. Despite all the commodities naturally occurring in the continent, most nations of Africa derive little benefits from the resources. High levels of corruption, lack of policies on wealth management, poor resource allocation, exploitation, and political instability are some of the factors that affect the continent. These problems need to be addressed to enable African nations to benefit from the abundant resources in their hands.

WHO ARE THE CRIMINALS

WHO ARE THE CRIMINALS

By MODESTUS EBO ANNAN

Criminality explained

A criminal is one who is able to afford basic needs of life such as food, water, shelter and air and is mentally sound  yet steals and engages in any form of practices which is deemed illegal and unwanted by the society to accrue assets or any form of wealth to themselves.

This is to say that anyone who is not able to afford the basic needs of life such as the above listed and engages in stealing is  just one who can be termed  as a survivor. It is imperative to know why people engage in petty stealing. Is it for the sake of comfortably accruing more wealth, greediness or hunger?

Here in the country are people who engage in activities such as stealing of streetlights, food items, midnight robbery at gun point, breaking of ATM's , attacking bullion vans, depleting government coffers, and inflating amounts of  government projects. Which of these people should we call criminals and which ones should we call as survivors? A young graduate begins internet fraud because he or she has been jobless for the past four years. A father of 3 is arrested for stealing street light. A young man of 30 who has no education and with no skills  is caught stealing companies assert because he is paid GHC600 monthly.

A public servant who is on government payroll yet inflate government projects, makes policies  favourable to his or her jurisdiction in order to operate, runs systems flooded with ghost names on payrolls.A  public servants who manages institutions but cannot account for monies allocated them to run their offices. Government officials who flouts laws by heaping foreign currencies in their rooms whiles there are directives not to keep do business foreign locally, business people who hike prices of items making it difficult for the ordinary to afford. A political thief who  embezzles present and future funds. Most at times these ones are exonerated and whitewashed.

In a country where  the most arrested are the ones that suffers hunger are no criminals, they are survivors.  In well established jurisdiction where basic livelihoods are catered for, many do not engage in petty stealing unless it's a mental condition.  When the  society is flooded with unemployed youth, they become aggrieved and aggressive and  resorts to any means possible to survive.  Many in Ghana can't afford single meal a day, graduate are not finding jobs, mothers and fathers are dying early as a result of starving and sadness.

Who do  we term the criminal, the hungry guy on the street  that wonder about picking pockets and bags, the community hopeless thief terrorizing the people or the public servant  who stole the past ,steals the present and is stealing the future and is covered with suit & tie and always vindicated by powers around them. Who is the criminal?

ANTI-CORRUPTION

How Ghana Red Cross staff embezzled $645,000 in one week

By: Adwoa Adobea-Owusu

Before a financial aid of USD$645,000 hit the account of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS), Central Region, in June 2020, the balance of that account was GHS73.87. It was not enough to fill a first-aid box.

The account was blinking red and the financial burden had become a cross the Red Cross in that region had to bear, especially in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak when it needed money to provide essential humanitarian services.

However, when funds were paid to the Red Cross Society in Ghana, some humanitarian workers decided to enrich themselves and ignore the plight of those in whose name the financial aid was sought and received.

In eight days, USD$500,000 out of the money was gone. The account was almost depleted—soon to blink red again. This was even before the Central Region branch of the Red Cross informed the national office as had been agreed.

The Ghana chapter has been in existence for over 50 years. With a network of 800 trained volunteers across the country, it solely relies on funding from individuals and organisations to provide the needed assistance.

It was for this reason that the Mastercard Foundation, a global non-governmental organisation focused on providing financial services to people, offered the Red Cross in Ghana funds when Covid-19 hit the world.

The $645,000 was to assist the Central, Ashanti, Volta, and Western regions of Ghana with Covid-19 prevention and mitigation activities.

How the money was dissipated

A tendering and procurement “committee” was set up to get suppliers to provide the necessary resources for the execution of the mandate of the project.

This became the beginning of a cesspool of corruption and manipulation. The committee was one person, the Central Regional Branch Manager of the Ghana Red Cross, John Ekow Aidoo. The “committee” awarded the contracts to five companies without any advertisement of the bid as required by the procurement laws of Ghana and the procedures of the organisation.

The companies—Shamana Hospitality Business, Elishnat Ventures, Willroser Fortune Enterprise, Kwadan Nkunim Enterprise, and Ludikof Enterprise—were handpicked and awarded the contracts.

Information The Fourth Estate obtained from the Registrar of Companies revealed that two of the companies were linked to the Central Regional Manager of the Ghana Red Cross, who was the sole member of the “committee” that awarded the contracts.

Shamana Hospitality Business was registered on March 27, 2020, the same period when discussions about the Mastercard Foundation project began.

The business, a sole proprietorship registered as a guest house, catering services, and tourism rental services, is in the name of Ernestina Amoako, the wife of the central regional manager, John Aidoo.

Elishnat Ventures was also registered on May 6, 2020, the same period when discussions were ongoing between the Mastercard Foundation and the GRCS to implement the project.

The company, registered as a general merchant and hardware rental services, is also in the name of Ernestina Amoako, the wife of the man who awarded the contract to the company.

Prosecute persons culpable of embezzling COVID-19 funds – SEND Ghana

Send Ghana, an NGO, has called for the immediate prosecution of all persons and entities found culpable in the embezzlement of COVID-19 funds.

It has also appealed to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, to as a matter of urgency, sit on the Auditor-General’s report that uncovered the rot to ensure “heads roll immediately.”

“This should not just be another audit report. Heads must roll and the courts must also be proactive and not overly delay in the prosecution of those found culpable as has been the case in most grand corruption cases involving public officials,” a statement issued by the Deputy Country Director of SEND Ghana, Emmanuel Ayifah, urged.

According to the statement, the Organisation in April 2022 had suspected a possible short-change in the application of COVID-19 funds and called for a special audit in related expenditure to ensure value for money.

Ghana bought $2m shares in Sky Train company established in Mauritius – Auditor General

An amount of US$2 million Ghana paid in 2019 as premium to acquire ordinary shares for the development of the Accra Sky Train Project has been reported as a net liability.

This is contained in a report by the Auditor General on the Public Accounts of Ghana’s Public Boards, Corporations and other Statutory Institutions for the period ended December 31, 2021.

In the report, it emerged that Africa Investor Holdings Limited incorporated a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in Mauritius for the purposes of establishing Ghana Sky Train Limited, to develop the Accra Sky Train Project through a concession on Design, Build, Finance and Operate arrangement.

According to the Auditor General’s report, the Government of Ghana through the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund paid US$2 million to Africa Investor Holdings Limited as full consideration for 10 ordinary shares at US$1.00 per share in Ai Sky Train Consortium Holdings (the SPV).

Thus, the premium paid for each share was US$199,999.

In fact, research shows a diet of less than 1,000 calories a day generally fails to provide the balanced nutrition your body needs, and it can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies associated with serious health issues[1].

What’s more, eating far fewer calories than you need causes your body to break down its own muscle and organ tissues for fuel. And the less lean tissue mass you have, the slower your metabolic rate, which is not ideal for weight loss.

So instead of restricting your caloric intake, focus on feeding your body healthier foods—it’s a more effective weight loss strategy, says Jamie Feit, a registered dietitian nutritionist and founder of Jamie Feit Nutrition in White Plains, New York. Here are the best foods to support a healthy and sustainable weight loss plan, according to experts.

The Role Food Plays in Weight Loss

Weight control is primarily a hormonal response to certain foods, says Matthew Olesiak, M.D., chief medical director of health technology company SANESolution based in Bellevue, Washington. “Hormones send signals to the brain that influence our cravings, hunger and body weight,” he says. Here’s how certain foods affect your hunger hormones:

The Role Food Plays in Weight Loss

Weight control is primarily a hormonal response to certain foods, says Matthew Olesiak, M.D., chief medical director of health technology company SANESolution based in Bellevue, Washington. “Hormones send signals to the brain that influence our cravings, hunger and body weight,” he says. Here’s how certain foods affect your hunger hormones:

Protein fills you up quickly and keeps you full for a long time. It also decreases post-meal secretions of the hunger hormone ghrelin, thus reducing feelings of hunger, says Dr. Olesiak.

“Protein also takes more energy to digest and increases lean muscle mass, both of which help boost metabolism,” he says.

Dietary fiber slows digestion and ensures a gradual rise in blood glucose levels, which triggers a slower release of the fat-storage hormone insulin, explains Dr. Olesiak.

“As fiber moves through the digestive system, various satiety hormones (like ghrelin) are released, sending signals to the brain to reduce hunger and regulate food intake,” he says.

Ultra-processed foods are low in nutrients and fiber, so they’re digested quickly, says Dr. Olesiak. “As a result, eating them (think potato chips, candy bars and toaster pastries) causes a rapid rise in blood glucose levels, which triggers a significant release of insulin,” he says. Because insulin must clear glucose from your bloodstream quickly, most of those calories are sent to your fat cells, he explains.

“Ideally, you’ll dip into these stored calories the next time you need energy. However, eating a steady supply of ultra-processed foods means you’ll continually make deposits to your fat cells, never withdrawals,” says Dr. Olesiak

That means you’ll stay fuller longer, which can help prevent overeating and reduce your overall caloric intake, says Kara Landau, a registered dietitian, gut health expert and founder of snack brand Uplift Food in Brooklyn, New York. “Prebiotic soluble fiber also feeds the beneficial bacteria living in your large intestine, which improves gut health,” she adds.

1. Lean Protein

Lean protein sources like chicken, turkey and grass-fed lean beef help keep you full, decrease cravings and stabilize blood sugar, says Feit. Plant-based proteins like legumes, beans and lentils have the same benefits, and they’re high in fiber as well, so they promote satiety.

2. Eggs

Eggs contain almost every essential vitamin (with the exception of Vitamin C), plus minerals like phosphorus, calcium and potassium. Along with being a source of complete protein, eggs are also adaptable for different tastes, says Feit.

3. Vegetables

Vegetables of all kinds can assist with weight loss, says Feit. For example, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and cabbage are high in fiber and vitamins and help reduce digestive issues. Meanwhile, dark green leafy vegetables contain protein and are a good source of vitamins, minerals and fiber. And crunchy vegetables like celery and jicama are great low-calorie options for snacking.

4. Avocados

Avocados are totally underrated, says Feit. The fruit is high in fiber and is a quality source of healthy fat, making it a great food for decreasing hunger. But since it is a fat source, avocado is calorically dense, so it’s important to remain mindful of portion size.

5. Apples

Apples are high in fiber and antioxidants, says Feit. The fruit also has anti-inflammatory properties and contains phytochemicals and vitamin C

6. Berries

Berries are high in fiber, antioxidants and vitamin C—all things that your body needs to function optimally, says Feit.

7. Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds have different health benefits, says Feit. All nuts are a good source of fiber, protein and healthy fat, and they help decrease hunger. Meanwhile, seeds are a great source of minerals and healthy fat. Watch your portions here, too. One serving of nuts and seeds is equivalent to a quarter cup.

8. Salmon

Salmon is high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, says Rima Kleiner, registered dietitian nutritionist and founder of wellness coaching company Smart Mouth Nutrition in Greensboro, North Carolina. Research suggests omega-3 fatty acids may help people with weight classified as overweight or obesity feel fuller[2]. And fish in general may help you feel satisfied and fuller longer than other proteins like eggs and beef, says Kleiner.

9. Shrimp

Shrimp promotes increased feelings of satiety, says Kleiner. Eating shrimp appears to decrease appetite by stimulating the production of cholecystokinin, or CCK, a hormone that signals to your stomach that you’re satisfied. Plus, shrimp and other shellfish contain zinc and selenium, two important minerals for immune health and increased energy.

10. Lupini Beans

Lupini beans are high in prebiotic fiber that feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut, says Landau. “When your gut bacteria is well nourished, the number and type of bacteria present multiplies. A well-populated and diverse microbiome improves gut health, which makes your cells more responsive to insulin, helping to remove fat stored around the waist,” she says.

11. Unripe Bananas

Unripe bananas contain one of the world’s richest sources of prebiotic-resistant starch, says Landau. Prebiotic-resistant starch makes your cells more responsive to insulin, helping to prevent fat storage around your waistline. Combined with protein (say, in a smoothie with a protein powder and/or nut butter), it can keep you satisfied for hours.

12. Raw Oats

Raw oats are full of resistant starch—a type of starch that resists digestion—which is very weight loss-friendly, says Landau. In the process of digestion, resistant starch releases byproducts that can make your cells more responsive to insulin, helping to reduce stubborn fat around your midsection.

13. Sauerkraut

Sauerkraut, or fermented cabbage, is both a prebiotic and probiotic food, says Dr. Olesiak, meaning it adds beneficial bacteria to your gastrointestinal tract and feeds the good bacteria already there. Sauerkraut is also high in fiber, helping control appetite and regulate blood glucose levels, he says

14. Legumes

Legumes have a positive effect on satiety and gut health, says Landau. Their high fiber content keeps you feeling fuller for longer, which prevents overeating. Plus, they contain nutrients that nourish your gut bacteria, too.

15. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds can help with weight control in two ways, says Dr. Olesiak. First, they’re loaded with fiber that can help you feel full, preventing overeating. Second, they expand in water, so if you eat them in their unsoaked form, they grow in your stomach, taking up more space and becoming a natural appetite suppressant.

16. Water

Water isn’t a food, but it’s just as important when it comes to healthy weight loss. “All of our body processes need water to function—metabolism is one of these processes,” says Feit, so be sure to stay well-hydrated.

Elon musk Hacked

With the new Elon Mode, your Tesla will be able to take you from A to B without you having to brake, accelerate or touch the steering wheel.

A white hat hacker known as ‘Green’ has discovered a quirky Easter Egg hidden in the Tesla software.

In short, Tesla’s latest self-driving upgrade is called ‘God Mode’, but it is known internally as ‘Elon Mode’.

Green’s job was made easier by the fact that Tesla’s software is mostly open-source, meaning anyone can access the code and explore it.

Provided they know how to code, that is

We don’t, but we’re not surprised to find out that Elon Musk decided to codename ‘God Mode’ as Elon Mode.

Musk certainly has a unique sense of humor.

The Tesla CEO often cracks ‘dad jokes’ and he doesn’t shy away from using his sarcasm on any available occasion.

Indigenes of Cape Coast enjoy the famous Street Carnival at Oguaa Fetu Afahye Festival

Hundreds of patrons touched the historic city of Cape Coast to celebrate the famous Oguaa Fetu Afahye Orange Street Carnival.

The Orange Friday Carnival, undoubtedly Ghana’s largest carnival, draws more than two hundred thousand visitors to the historic city of Cape Coast each year to witness the vibrant costumes, massive floats, and street celebrations.

The annual celebration, which began ten years ago, has attracted many brands, institutions and individuals, who take advantage of the opportunity to showcase and advertise their products and services to the celebrants.

The crowd mostly dressed in orange colours, sang and danced to tunes of music with a blend of display on how the Dutch enslaved the country’s forefathers.

Again, there were skating and acrobatics displayed by some groups to spice up the atmosphere as the city was converted into a carnival city, beaming with brightly coloured floats, a variety of masks and old school dressings.

The week-long Oguaa Fetu Afahye, normally climaxes on Saturday, but the Orange Friday Carnival is typically held on the Friday prior to the durbar.

Patrons of the carnival travel from within and outside of the country to participate and catch a glimpse of the spectacular displays of dressings, music, and parades through Cape Coast’s main streets.

This year’s four- kilometre distanced carnival saw the patrons calling for support from the traditional authorities and the Ghana Tourism Authority to help make the carnival bigger and better for the desired impact.

Aside from the merry-making, businesses also boom. More than 120,000 T-shirts were sold by the organizers with more demands, which could not be met.

Political parties on the other hand advertised themselves with placards, branded t-shirts and party paraphernalia to showcase their candidates for possible votes.

This year the carnival began at 0300 hours from Ayifua junction through to Pedu Junction to Kotukuraba and ended at the Chapel square within the Metropolis.

Some brands that participated included Obuase bitters, Palmee juice, Bidi Group, Adonko Next Level and Angel cola drinks.

Others are Donewell Insurance Company Limited, Lawson De-Ray, Food and Drugs Authority, and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, among others.
